ABSTRACT
INTRODUCTION:
Obesity represents a serious public health issue in Mexico, with a combined prevalence of overweight and obesity affecting 76% of the adult population.
METHODS:
This study analyzes the sociodemographic, clinical, and behavioral profiles of individuals with obesity using data from the 2021 National Health and Nutrition Survey (ENSANUT). Through a cross-sectional observational design, variables such as age, sex, socioeconomic level, tobacco and alcohol consumption, weight perception, and associated comorbidities were evaluated.
RESULTS:
Significant differences were found by sex, region, and socioeconomic status, as well as a strong association between obesity and chronic diseases such as diabetes, hypertension, kidney disease, and dyslipidemia.
CONCLUSIONS:
The findings underscore the need for multisectoral, evidence-based interventions focused on prevention, early detection, and comprehensive management of obesity in vulnerable populations.
