this study explores the intersection of music, medicine, and academic well-being by investigating the efficacy of music as a stress relief tool among students at the university of lagos, nigeria. employing a comprehensive mixed-methods approach, both qualitative and quantitative data collection methods were utilized to unravel the intricate relationship between music engagement and stress management. quantitative data gathered through questionnaires, probed students about stress levels and the extent to which they utilized music for stress relief. complementing this, qualitative insights were gleaned through interviews, providing a deeper understanding of how music is employed as a coping mechanism for stress among students. the overarching hypothesis posits that music serves as a potent stress relief tool, positively influencing students' academic performance and overall well-being. recognizing stress as a pervasive issue among university students, this study addresses the imperative need for effective stress management strategies that can impact both academic success and mental health. utilizing a sample from the university of lagos, the findings contribute to the broader field of research at the intersection of music and medicine, highlighting the potential of music as a non-invasive, cost-effective therapeutic intervention for stress reduction in educational settings. the outcomes of this study not only hold relevance for educators and mental health professionals but extend into the realm of medical applications. by emphasizing the role of music in stress relief, this research contributes to the evolving discourse on holistic approaches to student support, bridging the gap between music, medicine, and overall well-being in the university environment.
