ABSTRACT
INTRODUCTION:
Artificial intelligence (AI) is transforming how public health leaders design and deliver health promotion. Generative AI tools such as chatbots, language models, and adaptive learning systems are rapidly being used to simplify complex health information and reach underserved, multilingual, and low-literacy communities. However, equity gaps still exist in who designs, accesses, and benefits from these innovations.1
METHODS:
This practice-based inquiry draws from implementation frameworks, case studies, and emerging public health education strategies in academic and community settings. Examples were analyzed through a translational lens to explore how AI technologies are used to increase health promotion reach, trust, and engagement, especially among older adults, minority groups, and rural populations. 2, 3
RESULTS:
Findings highlight real-world strategies where AI tools were used to enhance digital health literacy, expand culturally tailored content, and reduce information overload. Community-based pilots employing mobile chatbots and generative visuals showed promise in supporting multilingual education and myth-busting during infectious disease campaigns. Academic integration of AI into graduate public health curricula improved student confidence, self-efficacy, and ethical reasoning. 3, 4 Major challenges identified include data privacy, algorithmic bias, and the readiness of public health systems to scale AI implementation.5
CONCLUSIONS:
AI presents a transformative opportunity to reimagine health promotion as more inclusive, personalized, and scalable. As the field advances digital transformation, public health professionals must take a leading role in guiding ethical design, ensuring equitable access, and building capacity. Investing in AI literacy, fostering interdisciplinary collaboration, and sharing knowledge globally will be essential for realizing AI’s full potential in promoting health and respecting human dignity across diverse settings. 1, 4, 5
