Inflammation is the body's natural response to injury, toxins, infections, and blood supply issues. While synthetic drugs are effective for treatment, they often have side effects. This study investigates the anti-inflammatory properties of Tamarindus indica as an alternative. Ethanolic extracts of its leaves and stem bark were tested using the carrageenan-induced chick paw oedema method with doses of 30mg/kg, 100mg/kg, and 300mg/kg. Both extracts significantly reduced paw volumes (p<0.05) compared to the control, with the leaf extract showing inhibition rates of 94.89%, 90.51%, and 86.13% for respective doses, outperforming the positive control. The study concludes that T. indica's leaf and stem bark are effective in reducing inflammation, supporting its traditional medicinal use for inflammatory conditions.
