The overlapping public health issues are antimicrobial resistance (AMR), environmental degradation, food insecurity, and climate stress especially in arid and semi-arid areas where vulnerable populations rely on livestock as a source of food and livelihood. Traditional AMR surveillance is centred around clinical and cultural stewardship but neglect environmental and agricultural forces in maintaining the antibiotic habit in the food production system. This study suggests a One Health, nature-based intervention based on Camelthorn (Vachellia erioloba) a keystone tree in the drylands to tackle AMR using environmental restoration, livestock health promotion, and plant-based antimicrobial alternatives. The study will use phytochemical assays, microbial activity testing, livestock feeding tests, soil microbiome metagenomics, and biodiversity surveys. Tannins and flavonoids will be tested using laboratory tests on multidrug-resistant Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli and will be tested biofilm inhibitory. Options to test Camelthorn pods as feed supplements in livestock trials will enhance growth, immunity, and productivity and decrease dependence on antibiotics. Environmental measurements investigate fixation of nitrogen, restoration of soil, carbon sequestration and possible decreasing of antimicrobial resistance gene propagation. It is already demonstrating early indications that Camelthorn can be used as a source of high-protein feed, has strong antimicrobial, phytochemical properties and can improve ecosystem services, which are vital in climate resilience. Camelthorn is a low-cost and easy-to-scale public health intervention, which meets the One Health and AMR action plans. This strategy repositions AMR control as non-responsive medical approach to prevent ecological and agriculture proactive approaches. The findings will be utilised in the establishment of sustainable livestock actions, agro forestry incorporation, food system stability, and ecosystem restoration policies in the low-resource settings. The research emphasises the role of the indigenous dryland species in being an upstream Public Health instrument to resolve a set of interconnected hazards of AMR, malnutrition, and land degradation.
