ABSTRACT
ABSTRACT:
Introtuction: Pediatric chronic kidney disease (CKD) is a serious public health problem and a considerable burden on health systems, particularly in low- and middle-income countries. The aim of this scoping review is to explore the body of evidence on clinical, demographic, and nutritional aspects found in recent observational studies on CKD in childhood, in a global context.

METHODS:
This study proposes a structured scoping review using the methodology developed by Arksey and O’Malley, expanded by Levac et al., and the PRISMA-ScR checklist, to map the existing literature. Relevant quantitative observational studies were searched in electronic databases (PubMed/Medline, Embase, Web of Science, and Google Scholar to retrieve possible additional grey literature records).

RESULTS:
Fifteen studies met the inclusion criteria for this scoping review. Of the seven studies conducted in high-income countries, four were cross-sectional and three were multicenter prospective cohorts. Of the eight studies conducted in low- and middle-income countries, all were specialized single-center studies with a cross-sectional design. The baseline clinical characteristics of patients were analyzed, with 889 from low- and middle-income countries and 2564 from high-income countries.

CONCLUSIONS:
This review mapped relevant and current evidence on the baseline characteristics of pediatric patients with CKD in a global context. Inequality in access to healthcare is observed, according to the country's income level. The need for standardization in the communication of research results is evident, given the heterogeneity in the presentation of the values of some variables.
