Construction of occupational risk maps at the university – A tool for worker health care

Context: The health of workers has been the subject of studies, debates, and especially, a field of insertion for public policies in Brazil, considering its transversality in various aspects of the health-disease process. In the university environment, actions in this segment are developed especially through extension projects, strengthening the teaching-research-extension triad. Considering the magnitude of this field, the construction of risk maps is consolidated as an important instrument of health surveillance, enabling visual and systematized identification of agents to which workers may be exposed. Its participatory construction favors the recognition of existing risks and supports prevention and health promotion actions. Therefore, the study aimed to describe the construction of risk maps in a public university.
METHODS:
Action research developed in a public university in the interior of Ceará, from August to November 2025. The construction of risk maps occurred through visits to the sectors, with observation, photographic records and dialogue with the workers, with the risks being classified according to the current Regulatory Standards. The results were presented in figures and analyzed based on the literature. The research complied with ethical precepts.
RESULTS:
Physical, chemical, biological, ergonomic, mechanical, and psychosocial risks were identified in different sectors of the campus, with variations in intensity and origin of exposures. The maps produced highlighted the particularities of the sectors and allowed for the visualization of the predominant risks, contributing to raising awareness among management and recognizing situations potentially harmful to health.
CONCLUSIONS:
The construction of risk maps proved to be an effective tool for diagnosing occupational risks in the university environment, strengthening worker involvement and supporting the planning of preventive actions. Its relevance as an initial strategy for risk management and for promoting safer and healthier work environments is highlighted.
