Digital Health Innovation: Development of the digital health educational portal within Brazil’s Unified Health System

ABSTRACT
INTRODUCTION:
Educational portals are digital interventions designed to expand and facilitate access to high-quality information (1,2). In health education, these platforms play a strategic role in promoting interactivity and stimulating knowledge production among healthcare professionals, family members, and patients (3,4). This study describes the development process of a Digital Health Educational Portal within Brazil’s Unified Health System.
METHODS:
The project was carried out between December 2024 and September 2025 and followed the stages of planning, prototyping, implementation, and validation. The activities included the elicitation of functional, pedagogical, and visual requirements, with a strong focus on usability and user experience. Development was guided by interdisciplinary collaboration involving faculty members, instructional designers, information technology specialists, and user interface designers, ensuring technical consistency, pedagogical coherence, and alignment with SUS policies and educational needs.
RESULTS:
The main outcomes include the implementation of essential functionalities and the integration of multiple modules within a single digital environment. The portal provides professional training and continuing education courses for SUS workers and offers a digital library accessible on mobile devices, containing e-books, podcasts, videos, and other reference materials. A dedicated news section disseminates updated information on events, webinars, public policies, and innovations related to digital health. Interactive spaces, discussion forums, and an institutional repository support collaboration, knowledge exchange, and the dissemination of scientific production. The responsive interface allows access through different devices, increasing usability and territorial reach.
CONCLUSIONS:
The Digital Health Educational Portal represents an important advance in the digital transformation of the SUS by consolidating an integrated, user-centered, and scalable educational infrastructure. The initiative contributes to the democratization of access to digital health knowledge, supports continuing professional development, and strengthens competencies for the ethical, critical, and effective use of emerging technologies in Brazilian public health across contexts, regions, services, populations, and care networks.
