INTRODUCTION:
Alcohol-related harm remains a major public health concern, contributing to injuries, violence, and long-term health conditions. Although regulatory frameworks are in place to manage alcohol availability, many communities are unaware of their legal right to object to liquor licence applications. This lack of awareness limits community participation, weakens local accountability, and undermines efforts to create safer and healthier environments. This workshop seeks to demonstrate the importance of educating communities about their role in liquor licensing processes, with a specific focus on building capacity to object to applications that may increase alcohol-related harm. By strengthening knowledge and advocacy skills, community members can actively influence local alcohol availability and promote public health outcomes.

METHODS:
The session will outline common red flags in liquor licence applications and provide a clear, step-by-step guide on how to submit formal objections within the licensing process.

RESULTS:
Community members will gain a clear understanding of their right to object to liquor licence applications and feel confident and empowered to exercise this right.

CONCLUSIONS:
Educating communities about their right to object to liquor licence applications is a critical public health intervention. It enhances civic participation, strengthens regulatory accountability, and contributes to the reduction of alcohol-related harm. Integrating this education into broader community training initiatives supports sustainable advocacy and fosters healthier, more resilient communities.
