ABSTRACT
BACKGROUND:
Hypertension is a major public health concern and one of the leading risk factors for cardiovascular diseases. Its prevalence among women in Morocco is estimated at 35%. This chronic condition adversely affects quality of life through its physical and psychological consequences, as well as its economic burden. The aim of this study was to assess health-related quality of life (HRQoL) among Moroccan women with hypertension and to identify the related sociodemographic, economic, and clinical factors .

METHODS:
A descriptive and analytical cross-sectional study was conducted in one primary healthcare center in Agadir city between May and August 2024. A simple random sample of women diagnosed with hypertension and followed for more than six months was included. Data were collected using a structured questionnaire comprising sociodemographic characteristics and comorbidities (diabetes, thyroid disorders, and heart disease), as well as the EQ-5D-3L questionnaire, validated and translated into Moroccan Arabic to assess quality of life. Data analysis was performed using Jamovi software version 2.3.28.

RESULTS:
A total of 40 women were recruited. The mean age was 60.9 ± 8.32 years. Most participants lived in urban areas (72.5%), and 50% reported a monthly income of less than 3,000 Moroccan dirhams. Nearly half of the participants were illiterate (47.5%). The most common comorbidities were diabetes (67.5%), heart disease (20%), and thyroid disorders (17.5%). The median EQ-5D-3L score was 0.59 [0.41–0.80]. Age and the presence of heart disease were significantly associated with impaired HRQoL among hypertensive women (p = 0.03 and p < 0.001, respectively).

CONCLUSIONS:
Hypertension negatively impacts the quality of life of women in Morocco. Enhancing awareness, therapeutic education, access to healthcare services, and family involvement may contribute to improving the quality of life of this population.
