ABSTRACT
BACKGROUND:
The Covid-19 pandemic required a rapid reorganization of health services. In this scenario, primary health care services played a fundamental role in expanding the capacity to respond to the spread of covid-19, especially in the monitoring of cases in the territory, which resulted in changes in work routines, causing negative impacts on the mental health of health workers. This study aims to identify the factors associated with Common Mental Disorders in Primary Health Care health workers in the context of the Covid-19 pandemic.
METHODS:
This qualitative study was carried out in Primary Health Care Units in a city in Brazil. The participants were 13 health workers, aged between 26 and 76 years, involved in Covid-19 prevention and control actions. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews, recorded and transcribed in full, and submitted to content analysis.
RESULTS:
The study participants were 13 health workers distributed in the following categories: nurse, nursing technician and receptionist and with a history of Covid-19 diagnosis (84.6%). The categorical analysis pointed out the situations related to the genesis of common mental disorders in health workers as a consequence of changes in working conditions during the pandemic: fear, scarcity of personal protective equipment, concern about family members becoming ill, work overload and lack of preparation of professionals.
CONCLUSIONS:
It is noted that in the context studied, the Covid-19 pandemic had repercussions on the mental health of Primary Health Care workers, which reinforces the need to implement mental health care policies and programs aimed at these professionals in the workplace.
