ABSTRACT
INTRODUCTION:
Nutrition inequity remains a silent crisis undermining global health equity and the SDGs. Despite advances in public health, there is no unified metric to assess nutrition equity and no institutional platform for collective accountability. This initiative bridges data and diplomacy by introducing the Nutrition Equity Index (NEI) and proposing the International Nutrition Justice and Equity Day to transform evidence into global responsibility and moral commitment.
METHODS:
The NEI, the data-driven tool detailed in a companion submission, integrates indicators across poverty, food access, gender, education, and climate vulnerability to quantify disparities. Evidence generated from the NEI provides the objective foundation for policy advocacy and governance reform. Through multi-stakeholder dialogues and advocacy diplomacy, these data insights are translated into declarative action via the proposed International Day, designed as a recurring platform for reflection, accountability, and renewed political will.
RESULTS:
Initial analysis demonstrates that nations prioritizing nutrition equity policies achieve broader co-benefits across SDGs, particularly in health, gender, and climate resilience. The NEI offers a transparent benchmarking tool for monitoring disparities, while the International Nutrition Justice And Equity Day provides a symbolic and institutional mechanism to align governments, UN agencies, and civil society in shared accountability and collective progress toward Nutrition Justice.
CONCLUSIONS:
The transition from data to declaration illustrates a new model of evidence-based global governance. Institutionalizing accountability through the Nutrition Equity Index and the International Nutrition Justice and Equity Day redefines nutrition as a matter of justice and shared responsibility, advancing a collective framework for equitable and sustainable health outcomes.
