ABSTRACT
INTRODUCTION:
People experiencing homelessness face multiple vulnerabilities that negatively impact their physical, mental, and social health, requiring care strategies that go beyond the traditional biomedical model. Therefore, interventions aimed at promoting balanced health and well-being through the application of body practices are tools that promote humanized care, strengthening bonds within the context of Primary Health Care (PHC).
AIM:
To describe the impact of the functional activities developed through the university extension project "SALT AND LIGHT" in promoting well-being, resocialization, and the development of social bonds among the homeless population housed in a social shelter in Brazil.
METHODS:
This is a descriptive study with a qualitative approach about functional activities performed by students of the "SALT and LIGHT" Project in a social shelter in Vitória, Brazil. The activities took place every two weeks in 2025, together with shelter residents and medical and physiotherapy students from the Santa Casa de Misericórdia de Vitória Higher School of Sciences (EMESCAM). The activities included stretching, yoga, dance, and integrative body practices based on lifestyle medicine. Participant evaluation was conducted through records of adherence and perception of those involved in the process.
RESULTS:
Progressive participation in the activities was observed, fostering the creation of bonds, improved body language, a sense of belonging, and the expression of emotions such as joy, lightness, and relief in the face of social adversities, promoting a life with greater quality and dignity.
CONCLUSIONS:
The activities coordinated by the outreach project were successful in promoting comprehensive and humanized healthcare for homeless people. Humanized interprofessional actions within the scope of primary health care are essential to guarantee well-being in national and international contexts permeated by social vulnerabilities.
