ABSTRACT
ABSTRACT:
Globally, infection prevention control (IPC) is of utmost importance & during pandemic this preparedness were not sufficient in preventing the transmission Covid -19 or other infectious diseases specially in hospital settings. With increased urbanization there is increased risk of pollutants such as particulate matters (PM) & hazardous gases which leads to the illness of humans and animals etc. Airborne PM2.5, is small enough to bypass respiratory defences & it can cause a variety of health effects, respiratory irritation, chronic bronchitis, cardiovascular problems & even premature death. Furthermore, PM often acts as a vector for pathogenic microorganisms. This has become especially relevant in the post-pandemic context, where public health systems are prioritizing strategies to reduce the spread of infections such as influenza & COVID-19 etc. The Icebattery IB Insulation Coating, a Japanese-origin technology that combines insulation with pollution mitigation properties. IB insulation coating was applied on the internal walls & roofs in a hospital setup. Hospital grade room air purifiers were installed across these areas in a hospital to monitor the trend in the difference of Particulate matters. The paint when applied to indoor surfaces, emits far-infrared rays. These rays generate negative ions that interact with airborne water molecules, breaking them down and facilitating the settlement of dust particles and chemical pollutants such as VOCs. Preliminary studies & field applications in Japanese healthcare settings have yielded encouraging results. In controlled trials, IB application led to an approximate 24.2% reduction in PM2.5, 23.3% in PM10, and an impressive 94.2% reduction in TVOC levels. These reductions are not only significant from an air quality perspective but also critical from a public health viewpoint, as they contribute to lowering the overall exposure to carcinogens, respiratory irritants, and disease-transmitting pathogens. The outcomes of this innovative method are expected to be transformative.
