ABSTRACT:
The effective implementation of public health interventions in low-resource settings is essential for improving population health and addressing global health inequities. However, implementation processes in these contexts are often challenged by limited financial and human resources, inadequate infrastructure, and complex socio-political environments. These factors are often inadequately considered during project planning, thereby hindering successful implementation. The application of established implementation approaches and frameworks can, therefore, be instrumental in the early-stage development of context-sensitive, pragmatic, and adaptable strategies. This workshop will address key challenges, opportunities, and practical solutions for implementing public health interventions in low-resource settings. The session will open with a brief overview of common barriers and facilitators influencing implementation processes, based on experiences from our own projects. It will then introduce pragmatic and adaptive implementation approaches that build on the theoretical perspectives outlined by Nilsen (2020)1, with particular attention to strategies that enhance feasibility, acceptability, and sustainability under resource-constrained conditions. The second part of the session will be interactive and practice oriented. Participants will engage in moderated small-group discussions to reflect on their own implementation experiences, identify key challenges in their contexts, and jointly develop practical, context-appropriate implementation strategies. The session will conclude with a plenary discussion synthesizing lessons learned and highlighting transferable approaches across different public health domains and regions. The objective of this session is to facilitate collaborative learning, strengthen implementation capacity, and support public health professionals in designing and delivering interventions that are feasible, responsive, and sustainable in low-resource settings.
