ABSTRACT
INTRODUCTION:
life’s essential 8 (LE8) is a comprehensive measure of cardiovascular health proposed by the american heart association.¹ evidence linking LE8 to health-related quality of life in asian populations remains limited. this study examined the association between LE8 and health-related quality of life in korean adults.

METHODS:
data from 30893 adults participating in the korea national health and nutrition examination survey between 2014 and 2020 were analyzed. LE8 metrics comprised health behaviors (diet, physical activity, smoking, and sleep) and health factors (body mass index, lipids, glucose, and blood pressure). health-related quality of life was assessed using the EuroQol-5D (EQ-5D).² multivariable logistic regression models were used to examine associations between LE8 scores and EQ-5D domains after adjusting for relevant covariates.

RESULTS:
higher LE8 scores were associated with lower odds of reporting problems across all EQ-5D domains, including mobility, self-care, usual activities, pain/discomfort, and anxiety/depression. health behavior components showed consistent negative associations with problems in all EQ-5D domains. favorable health factor profiles were negatively associated with problems in mobility, self-care, usual activities, and pain/discomfort.

CONCLUSIONS:
better cardiovascular health, particularly healthy behaviors, is associated with higher health-related quality of life in korean adults. these findings support the importance of lifestyle-focused cardiovascular prevention strategies to maintain quality of life at the population level.
