INTRODUCTION:
In order to reduce historical inequalities and guarantee access to specialized care in the Brazilian public health system, the Ministry of Health created the More Specialist Doctors Project in 2025 (1). The Project seeks equity in the distribution of specialist doctors to reduce waiting times for consultations, exams, and surgeries for the Brazilian population (2).

METHODS:
The More Specialist Doctors Project is structured on three fundamental pillars: provision of specialist doctors, in-service training with pedagogical excellence, and innovation in health care. It is organized through partnerships with municipal and state governments, with institutions of excellence in medical training, and with funding from the Ministry of Health.

RESULTS:
In the 1st edition of the Project, more than 6,000 health services in municipalities and states of Brazil registered for the project. By January 2026, the program had 574 medical specialists in areas such as Anesthesiology, Oncology (clinical, surgical and diagnostic support), Cardiology, Gynecology and others, distributed across 193 municipalities in 24 states. Regions with medium and high social vulnerability concentrated about 73% of these professionals, with emphasis on the Legal Amazon and the Northeast. The Legal Amazon received 100 doctors, representing 17.4% of the total number of specialists, allocated to 43 municipalities. The Northeast concentrated 346 doctors, equivalent to 60.3% of the total number of doctors, distributed across 99 municipalities (3). Partnerships were established with 18 training institutions. For 2026, the expansion of the provision of 2,000 medical specialists throughout the country and the expansion of the network of training institutions are planned.

CONCLUSIONS:
The Project is an innovative public policy in Brazil, with direct action in the most vulnerable regions of the country and a focus on expanding access to specialized care within the SUS (Brazilian Public Health System).
