ABSTRACT
INTRODUCTION:
Active transportation is a powerful solution to the public health concern of physical inactivity. While increasing physical activity, active transportation can improve physical and mental health. In addition to health benefits, active transportation also has economic, environmental, and social benefits. However, areas of persistent poverty usually lack the necessary infrastructure for active transportation. Bring all the stakeholders in one room can catalyst policy, systems, and environmental changes.

METHODS:
As part of the Guin Fit initiative’s strategy on safe and accessible community design for physical activity, a Moving Active Transportation Forward Workshop was hosted with the Community Foundation of the Mahoning Valley. The keynote speaker was the Policy Director of the League of American Bicyclists, a technical provider of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Participants and speakers included elected officials, city planners, and representatives from the Ohio Department of Transportation, Regional Council of Governments, Public Transit Authority, business owners, and community organizations, as well as faculty and students. The one-day event had keynote presentation, panel discussion, and bikeablity audit. A post-event survey was distributed.

RESULTS:
We received 21 completed responses. The responding rate was 42%. 95% of the participants agreed or strongly agreed that the workshop was interesting and touched on current critical topics in active transportation, that the speakers were knowledgeable about the subject matter, that the speakers effectively presented the subject matter. Most participants were satisfied or very satisfied about the sessions they attended. All participants were able to identify one or more actions they learned about or were more likely to take to promote active transportation in their community. A common theme was that the participants asking for more similar event in the future.

CONCLUSIONS:
The workshop was effective in bring active transportation stakeholders in the community together and promote active transportation in the community.
