ABSTRACT
INTRODUCTION:
Following the COVID-19 pandemic, there continues to be a disproportionately higher burden of vaccine preventable diseases within Australian Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. Within this context, health services are looking for new ways to engage and promote vaccination uptake to Indigenous populations. Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander men in Australia have the lowest rates of health service utilization, but the highest morbidity and mortality rates. Barriers to accessing healthcare include health knowledge gaps, culturally inappropriate staff and services, and accessibility.

METHODS:
The aim of this project is the increased uptake in vaccinations by Indigenous males living across the Ngaanyatjarra Lands in very remote Australia. The objectives of the project are to: I. Develop a series of co-designed vaccination videos filmed in traditional language to improve male vaccine literacy. II. Deliver culturally safe vaccination activities led by male clinical staff directly to Indigenous men and boys. III. Improve the accessibility of vaccinations utilising mobile clinic van services.

RESULTS:
The intervention for this vaccination uptake project has two distinct phases: Phase 1: The delivery of 7 co-designed vaccination films, filmed in Ngaanyatjarra language by Indigenous males and family members on traditional lands. These films will be disseminated across social media, community events and local radio. Phase 2: The delivery of remote men’s immunisation clinics delivered by male nurses to Indigenous men and boys across the Ngaanyatjarra Lands.

CONCLUSIONS:
The expected outcomes of the Ngaanyatjarra Indigenous Men’s Vaccination Project is the increased uptake of vaccinations by men and boys in this desert region of far remote Australia. The development of seven unique vaccination films recorded on Country will improve vaccination literacy and accessibility.
