Perception of Clinical Research Professionals in the Amazon Regarding the Use of Artificial Intelligence: An Integrative Literature Review

ABSTRACT
INTRODUCTION:
Artificial Intelligence (AI) has driven significant advances in healthcare, particularly in the field of clinical research, and has expanded notably in strategically important regions such as the Amazon.
OBJECTIVE:
To conduct an integrative literature review in order to understand the perception of clinical research professionals in the Amazon regarding the use of AI.
METHODS:
This study consists of an integrative literature review of scientific productions addressing the perception of clinical research professionals in the Amazon and the use of artificial intelligence. The search for studies was carried out in the journal portals of the Coordination for the Improvement of Higher Education Personnel (CAPES) and the Scientific Electronic Library Online (SCIELO) databases.
RESULTS:
Thirteen (13) full-text articles were selected, meeting the following criteria: freely available full-text scientific papers published in the last ten years (2014–2024), written in Portuguese, and of national origin. The integrative literature review technique was applied using both quantitative and qualitative approaches. Characterization of the studies revealed that the highest frequency of publications occurred between 2021 and 2024.
CONCLUSIONS:
The selected studies demonstrate varied perceptions among professionals regarding the use of artificial intelligence in clinical research in the Amazon. While some recognize AI’s potential to optimize processes and improve data accuracy, concerns persist regarding ethics, privacy, and data confidentiality. This indicates that professionals perceive artificial intelligence in a limited and ambiguous manner. The analyzed studies also highlighted the scarcity of scientific production on this topic in the Amazon region, as well as the importance of reflecting on the relationship between professionals engaged in clinical research and artificial intelligence in this context. Furthermore, the findings emphasize the need for greater attention, training, and investigation on AI to promote the appreciation of this tool in the daily professional practice of clinical research.
