ABSTRACT
BACKGROUND:
Environmental pollution is a critical determinant of reproductive health. In Ghana, the convergence of artisanal mining, unregulated pesticide use, and urban air pollution has created a significant public health challenge. The toxic burden from heavy metals, endocrine-disrupting chemicals (EDCs), and persistent organic pollutants (POPs) poses a direct threat to fertility, pregnancy outcomes, and fetal development, highlighting an urgent need for evidence-based policy intervention.

METHODS:
This study employed a systematic, policy-oriented analysis, synthesizing recent evidence (2020-2025) from the fields of toxicology and epidemiology. The methodology involved a comprehensive review of scientific literature on exposure pathways and health outcomes, coupled with a critical evaluation of Ghana's existing national policies and regulatory frameworks governing environmental pollutants and public health.

RESULTS:
The analysis reveals a clear and present danger to reproductive health in Ghana. Key findings include elevated levels of heavy metals in populations near mining areas, a widespread presence of EDCs from agricultural chemicals, and a robust documented link between these exposures and adverse reproductive outcomes. A critical finding is the significant gap in national policies specifically designed to protect reproductive health from environmental hazards.

CONCLUSIONS:
This study concludes by proposing a novel national toxicology framework for Ghana. This innovative contribution to policy advocates for the integration of biomonitoring into reproductive health programs and the implementation of digital exposure surveillance. The framework provides a concrete, actionable pathway toward achieving environmental justice and building reproductive resilience, directly contributing to the advancement of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 3 and 13.
