INTRODUCTION:
Our study sought to investigate the prevalence and related factors of normal-weight central obesity (NWCO) among people aged 45 and over, using national community-dwelling data from Indonesia in 2023.

METHODS:
In all, 3865 cross-sectional national data from persons 45 years and older of the 2023 Indonesia Longitudinal Aging Survey (ILAS) were analysed. Anthropometric and independent variables were assessed with standard metrics. The factors associated with NWCO were evaluated with multinomial logistic regression.

RESULTS:
The overall prevalence of prevalence of underweight, NWCO, general obesity (OB) and general obesity with central obesity (OBCO) were 10.3%, 16.5%, 2.3% and 37.0%, respectively. Regressions showed that higher education, having diabetes, having hypertension, female sex and non-current smoking were associated with NWCO. Not being married, lower personal income and not having hypertension were associated with having underweight. Male sex, middle-aged, and depressive symptoms were associated with OB. Higher education, internet use, lower self-rated health status, having hypertension, female sex and not working for income were associated with OBCO. Furthermore, OBCO and NWCO were associated with having hypertension, NWCO was associated with diabetes, and OBCO was associated with high cholesterol.

CONCLUSIONS:
The study showed that about one in six Indonesia's middle-aged and older persons have NWCO. In order to prevent NWCO, health care providers can inform their patients about the significance of maintaining a healthy weight and lifestyle changes.
