ABSTRACT:
Primary care and public health: a strategic alliance (abstract for Oral Communication WCPH 2026) INTRODUCTION and PURPOSE Primary Care (PC) is a clinical sector of Medicine with a broad scope of action, with a hands-on intervention in communities. Public Health (PH) is a specialty devoted to the study of epidemiology and demography, in order to propose preventive measures, change in Healthcare policies on a strategic level. The strategic necessity for both PC and PH to identify common fields in which a structural coordination will lead to a potentiation and optimization of their assets, boosting the overall peformance of the Health systems, regardless of the financial stength of the society involved.
METHODS:
The current Spanish National Health System (SNS), is a well equipped, organized and functioning Western European organization (G-20 countries), assets and flaws are reviewed to evaluate present and evolving challenges. Current infrastructure in clinical record and health center-personnel ratio; data sharing and collection procedures Common fields and analogies in PC and PH: Prevalent diseases, age-group and gender-based maladies, life habit-related diseases, enviromental-related illnesses, mental health, climate change, demographical change and related shift in patient and disease profiles, Communication policies, population education, antimicrobial resistance. Communication technologies’ potential.
RESULTS:
Multiple issues in PC and PH are intertwined and benefit from sharing of data and reciprocal support. Electronic clinical record integration of a whole country or territory, potential of Artificial Intelligence, simultaneous monitoring of challenges and results of measures leads to enhanced performance. Bench-marking and institutional and international cooperation helps in bridging gaps between nations. One World.
CONCLUSIONS:
The identification of common areas of action makes the structured coordination of PC and PH a strategic imperative. The fine tuning of shared data using present and developing technologies can boost both performances, allowing for real time adjustments, prediction and anticipation of future challenges.
