ABSTRACT
OBJECTIVE:
To assess the prevalence of school violence and identify associated factors among students at Phu Luong and Ban Mai Secondary Schools in 2024.
METHODS:
A cross-sectional study was conducted from December 2023 to June 2024. Data were collected via structured questionnaires from 513 students. Data cleaning and analysis were performed using Epidata 3.0 and SPSS 20.0. Descriptive statistics and inferential analysis (binary and multivariable logistic regression) were applied, with statistical significance set at p<0.05.
RESULTS:
Among 513 participants (54.6% in grade 8; 45.4% in grade 9), the prevalence of school violence victimization was 18.7%, while 8.2% of students reported being perpetrators. Key factors significantly associated with school violence included: grade level, history of domestic violence, living arrangements (living with peers), number of close friends, having friends involved in violence, peer relationship quality, frequency of life-skills education, and exposure to violent media/publications.
CONCLUSIONS:
School violence remains a significant issue at the surveyed schools. The study highlights the importance of a multi-sectoral approach: students should participate in prevention programs and limit their exposure to violent content; families and schools must enhance communication channels and provide timely interventions to mitigate risk factors.
