ABSTRACT
BACKGROUND:
Occupational accidents (OA) constitute a critical global public health challenge with profound socioeconomic repercussions. According to the International Labour Organization (ILO), the annual burden exceeds 3 million work-related deaths. In Brazil, the scenario is alarming, with annual averages surpassing 500,000 records and substantial social security costs. Data from the Notifiable Diseases Information System (SINAN) reinforce the predominance of typical accidents, followed by commuting accidents and occupational diseases, revealing a landscape of marked occupational inequities that demand regionalized investigations.

AIM:
To analyze the epidemiological profile of occupational accidents notified in Rio Claro/SP/BR, emphasizing differences related to the workers' sex.

METHODS:
A quantitative, cross-sectional, and analytical epidemiological study was conducted using secondary data from SINAN/DATASUS. The sample comprised 11,329 OA records (ICD-10: V01-Y98) notified in Rio Claro/SP/BR (2015-2024), involving individuals aged 18 years or older. Variables analyzed included sex (independent), sociodemographic, and occupational characteristics. Data were processed using SPSS software (v.27), descriptive statistics, and Pearson's Chi-square tests ($p < 0.05$). The magnitude of associations was measured using Phi or Cramer’s V coefficients. Due to the nature of the data (public/anonymized), the study was exempt from ethical review.

RESULTS:
A predominance of accidents was identified among men (68.3%). Distinct patterns were observed by sex: men showed a higher frequency of typical accidents at the employer's establishment (70.0%), while women predominantly experienced commuting accidents on public roads (55.4%). Statistically significant associations were identified between sex and labor market status (p < 0.001), location (p < 0.001$), and accident type (p < 0.001), with moderate magnitudes (Cramer’s V between 0.216 and 0.244).

CONCLUSIONS:
The findings evidence differentiated risk exposure profiles between sexes, suggesting the need for specific preventive strategies that address the occupational and commuting particularities of each population group.
