ABSTRACT:
Introduction. Smart hospitals will soon have a central role in the era of artificial intelligence. Global health systems are under immense pressure on acquiring goods and technologies linked to that all new highly desired branding. Machine learning, internet of things, real-time decision-making support, and complex big data analyses are the core of this smart issue recently linked to hospitals as traditional health services. How will this hospital’s reshaping effort influence the future of health systems’ sustainability and resilience? Methods. An integrative literature review was enrolled to frame smart hospitals influence on the future of sustainable and resilient healthcare systems. At least 441 articles were obtained from databases like PubMed/Medline, Embase, Cochrane Library, Scopus, Web of Science, SciELO e LILACS. The analysis of the most recent articles, 2016-2025, shows that 147 were selected to comply with the aim of this paper. Results. Scientific literature shows its main evidence condensed in three main subjects. Operational efficiency translated specially by asset/team tracking, reduced downtime, improved internal logistics, and process visibility as by-products of automation. Capacity and flow management represented by gains in coordination and decision-making with command centers considering that effects depend on governance and buy-in. Device and data integration enabling the advance of intelligent situational awareness alarms and improved documentation, when well supported by process architecture and standardization. Conclusion. The hospital redesign targeting smart status uses processes architecture refinement, integration and automation. Sustainability and resilience are fundamental values that must influence that redefining effort to guarantee that smart hospitals are still driven by human centeredness needs. Data and information integration supporting new decision-making standards in hospital settings is a priority to better guide resource use, which induces simultaneously higher capacity availability, better safety and lower hospital environment impacts, as main outcomes to be reached in favor of sustainable and resilient healthcare systems.
