ABSTRACT:
Armed conflict, forced migration, and humanitarian crises have resulted in unprecedented numbers of displaced children worldwide, exposing pediatric populations to compounded physical, psychological, and developmental risks. This presentation examines the critical role nurses play in caring for displaced pediatric populations across acute, community, and disaster settings. Drawing on trauma-informed and family-centered care frameworks, it highlights the impacts of displacement and generational trauma, including mental health sequelae, increased vulnerability to illness, and disrupted development. Practical nursing strategies are discussed, including creation of child-friendly care environments, culturally responsive communication, and developmentally appropriate disaster preparedness education. The presentation concludes with a call to action emphasizing advocacy, interdisciplinary collaboration, and sustained investment in pediatric mental health and resilience to improve outcomes for displaced children globally.
