ABSTRACT:
This study analyzes the work activity of women community health workers (CHWs) in the municipality of Vitória, Espírito Santo, Brazil, in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic, based on a qualitative and intervention-oriented approach within the field of Collective Health. Grounded in the activity clinic and inspired by the concept of escrevivências (writing from lived experience), the research constructs narratives produced by the workers themselves as a strategy for analysis, self-care, and the expansion of their power to act. The study employed focus groups, interviews, participant observation, and letter writing, understood as ethical-political devices for producing meaning about work, life, and health care. The results highlight the dilemmas, overloads, and precarious working conditions intensified by the pandemic, as well as the intersections of being a woman, a worker, and a caregiver in territories marked by social inequalities. At the same time, practices of resistance, reinvention, and solidarity emerge that affirm life in the everyday work of health care. The study argues that the collective construction of narratives and escrevivências constitutes a powerful strategy for strengthening care, equity, and inclusion within Primary Health Care. By giving visibility to the voices and experiences of CHWs, the study contributes to the debate on health without borders, recognizing women’s work in health as central to the sustainability of public systems and to the promotion of care practices committed to equity and social justice.
