ABSTRACT
BACKGROUND:
The challenge of consolidating health education in diverse and resource-limited contexts requires innovative strategies to ensure sustainability and wide community impact. Traditional training programs often focus only on individual knowledge acquisition, with limited effect on systemic change. To address this gap, a structured program for training health education multipliers was developed, aiming to expand capacities for health promotion, prevention, and continuous education in primary care and specialized services.
METHODS:
The initiative was designed as a multi-phase program grounded in principles of adult learning and Permanent Health Education, aligned with national policies. The curriculum included theoretical modules on health promotion, participatory methodologies, and educational planning, combined with practical workshops for contextual adaptation. Participants were selected among health professionals with leadership potential, and trained to act as multipliers within their institutions and territories. Continuous monitoring tools and feedback mechanisms were incorporated to evaluate performance and support progressive improvement.
RESULTS:
The program engaged health professionals from different disciplines and regions, promoting interprofessional collaboration and knowledge exchange. Multipliers demonstrated significant improvement in educational planning skills, facilitation of participatory activities, and capacity to adapt content to local realities. As a result, new educational practices were implemented in primary health units, hospitals, and community programs, fostering local ownership of health promotion strategies. Furthermore, the multiplier approach amplified the reach of training efforts, reducing dependency on centralized educational resources.
CONCLUSIONS:
Training health education multipliers proved to be an effective strategy for strengthening public health capacities, enhancing workforce empowerment, and ensuring sustainability of educational actions. By investing in multiplier formation, health systems can expand the impact of education initiatives, adapt interventions to diverse realities, and promote equity in access to health knowledge. This experience highlights the importance of integrating educational innovation into global strategies for health promotion and workforce development.
