ABSTRACT
INTRODUCTION:
According to WHO, Port of Entry (PoE) and Quarantine- are one of the most important pillars to combat the spread of the infection. The main objective of this study was to assess the level of knowledge, attitudes and preventive practices towards COVID-19 among the staff working in Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport (HSIA), Dhaka, the primary port of entry of Bangladesh.

METHODS:
A cross-sectional descriptive type of study was conducted. Data were collected using semi-structured questionnaire through direct interviews with 200 staff from different departments of HSIA during July to December 2021.

RESULTS:
Among the 200 respondents, 78.5% respondents were from law enforcement agencies, 13.5% were from administration and 8% were from airport health department. Most of the participants 94.5% were male and a very few 5.5% were female. Almost 45.0% respondents got information about covid-19 from social media, mass media, government campaign and health staffs. Almost 86.0% thought old aged persons were more at risk of covid-19 infection and 75.0% respondents believed that individuals with co-morbidities were more at risk. Age group had highly significant association with knowledge (X²=81.579a, p=0.000), attitude (X²=130.070a, p=0.000) and practice (X²=187.750a, p=0.000) regarding COVID-19. Educational qualification of the respondents had highly significant association with attitude (X²=99.149a, p=0.000), knowledge (X²=158.084a, p=0.000), and practice (X²=60.532a, p=0.000). Respondents who were from extended families were more conscious than nuclear families’ respondents as the family consists older age people and older people were more prone to attack.

CONCLUSIONS:
Based on the study findings, it was found that, respondents from HSIA had 80% good knowledge, 71.5% good attitude and 60.5% good practice, which is satisfactory. Mandatory refreshers trainings and awareness programs about infectious diseases should be organized regularly for all staff of HSIA to combat future pandemic like COVID-19.
