User Acceptance of the “HEXSA” Application in Hospital-Based Home Health Care Services: A Technology Acceptance Model Approach

ABSTRACT
BACKGROUND:
Hospital-based Home Health Care (HHC) services are increasingly supported by digital applications that facilitate communication among patients, healthcare providers, and service managers. The success of health information technology implementation depends largely on user acceptance. Understanding factors influencing acceptance of HHC applications is therefore essential to improving service quality and continuity of care.
METHODS:
This study examined user acceptance of the “HEXSA” application in the Home Health Care service of Pertamina Central Hospital using the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM). A quantitative cross-sectional design was applied. Of 157 distributed questionnaires, 126 valid responses were included in the analysis. The study assessed the influence of Perceived Ease of Use (PEU) and Perceived Usefulness (PU) on Attitude Toward Use (ATU), as well as the moderating effects of user characteristics. Data were analysed using Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) with the Partial Least Squares (PLS) method.
RESULTS:
The results showed that both PEU and PU had positive and significant effects on ATU. Perceived usefulness also significantly mediated the relationship between perceived ease of use and attitude toward use, indicating that users’ perception of application benefits plays a critical role in shaping acceptance. Among user characteristics examined (gender, age, frequency of use, and duration of use), only age significantly moderated the relationship between PEU and PU. Univariate analysis revealed that most users expressed positive attitudes toward the “HEXSA” application, reporting comfort and satisfaction, although several features were identified as requiring improvement.
CONCLUSIONS:
This study confirms the relevance of TAM in evaluating digital health applications and highlights the importance of perceived ease of use and perceived usefulness in user acceptance of hospital-based HHC applications. The findings provide practical guidance for further development of the “HEXSA” application to better align with user needs and enhance service quality.
