ABSTRACT:
The Centro de Medicina Reproductiva y Desarrollo Integral del Adolescente (CEMERA) of the Universidad de Chile was a pioneer in Chile in establishing, in 1981, a center for the comprehensive care of pregnant adolescents. The initial approach later evolved into what is now known as the comprehensive model of Sexual and Reproductive Health (SRH) care for adolescents.

METHODS:
Qualitative research, conducted through a triangulation of two techniques, the review of institutional documents, together with 12 staff interviews and 8 adolescent interviews and a discussion session of results.

RESULTS:
CEMERA's integral care model is based on a multiprofessional team that addresses both the biological and psychosocial aspects of health. This model is complemented by the approaches of Rights, Life Course, Gender, and Interculturality, emphasizing respect for confidentiality and the progressive autonomy of adolescents. Interviewees agree that the care modality is appropriate due to the multidisciplinary team and its approaches. However, a challenge identified by the staff is expanding access for male adolescents and addressing the reluctance of female adolescents to consult male physicians.

CONCLUSIONS:
The model implemented at CEMERA allows for holistic and contextual care, however, the traditional feminization of SRH has led to fewer adolescent males resorting to the Center. In addition, the rejection of female adolescents towards male physicians could be influenced by information on gynecological violence, evidencing the gender gaps in this area of health care.
