ABSTRACT
ABSTRACT:
Introduction. The remoteness of most medical organizations in the country from specialized medical centers often hinders prompt communication between specialists, increasing the time it takes to diagnose rare and serious diseases. This problem is being addressed through the use of telemedicine technologies. Another pressing issue is the shortage of essential medical personnel in the constituent entities of the Russian Federation. Reducing the cost and time of patient transportation to a medical facility is an important aspect that telemedicine can also address (especially relevant for residents of remote regions with large distances between major cities). Telemedicine also offers the opportunity to hold consultations—discussions of complex clinical cases involving highly qualified specialists from across the country. Using telemedicine technologies, children with complex clinical cases can receive the necessary treatment promptly.
OBJECTIVE:
To study the effectiveness and need for further development of telemedicine technologies in the provision of specialized medical care.
METHODS:
An analysis of the telemedicine technology department's performance from January 2019 to December 2025 was conducted. Information on consultations was taken into account, including treatment strategy analysis, identification of additional research methods, therapy adjustments, reference studies, and hospitalized patients based on telemedicine consultations.
RESULTS:
Experience with telemedicine technologies has demonstrated their enormous importance for regional medical institutions providing specialized medical care. From 2019 to 2024, the telemedicine center of the Dmitry Rogachev National Medical Research Center for Pediatric Hematology, Oncology, and Immunology of the Russian Ministry of Healthcare conducted over 70,000 consultations. Another important point in the interaction between regional medical institutions and the federal center is reference studies: review of the results of radiological diagnostics (CT/MRI) (more than 12 thousand were performed).
CONCLUSIONS:
Remote consultations using telemedicine technologies in providing medical care are an effective and efficient way to assist specialists from across the Russian Federation.
