ABSTRACT
BACKGROUND:
COVID-19 preventative strategies have been extensively advocated through schools, churches, seminars, billboards, radio, and television to inform the public and enforce compliance. This study aims to assess the impact of these prevention measures on the health of individuals residing in the Nabor Settlement of Jos, North Central Nigeria.
METHODS:
The study utilized a descriptive survey design. Data were collected via self-administered questionnaires. Both descriptive and inferential analytic measures were employed for data analysis. To uphold research integrity, appropriate ethical measures were undertaken to ensure the confidentiality and anonymity of all participants.
RESULTS:
Findings indicate that 98% of respondents possessed good knowledge of COVID-19 prevention measures. All participants reported practicing these measures, specifically through the use of face masks (57%) and hand washing (28%). Approximately 85% of the sample had been tested for COVID-19. Regarding health impact, 70% of residents noted a decrease in infections, while 28% reported a reduction in hospitalizations. Statistical testing showed a significant association between compliance with prevention measures and positive health impacts (Chi-66.8 > Crit. 3.481; P >0.05).
CONCLUSIONS:
The study concludes that COVID-19 prevention measures significantly improve the health of residents by reducing infection rates and hospitalizations. To sustain this positive impact, continued efforts in health education and sensitization campaigns are essential.
