ABSTRACT
INTRODUCTION:
The digital transformation of healthcare systems has expanded the use of information and communication technologies to improve care, increase access, and reduce inequalities. In Ceará, a state characterized by territorial diversity, Digital Health plays a strategic role in the 2024–2027 State Health Plan, especially in the expansion of Telehealth. This study describes the experience of the Multiprofessional Residency Program in Digital Health as a service-based training strategy aimed at strengthening the integrated network of public health policies and improving the skills of the Brazilian Unified Health System (SUS).
METHODS:
This is a descriptive-reflective account of the experience of the Multiprofessional Residency Program in Digital Health, established in 2025 by the Ceará School of Public Health (ESP/CE) and developed within the Health Secretariat of the State of Ceará, Brazil. The program has a total workload of 5,760 hours, distributed over two years, in a service-based training format, encompassing the categories of Nursing, Physiotherapy, and Psychology. The training occurs in strategic settings of the Brazilian Unified Health System (SUS), covering management, care, surveillance, telehealth, regulation, hospital services, urgent and emergency care, and environments of innovation and intelligence in health.
RESULTS:
The longitudinal integration of residents into management, care, surveillance, regulation, and innovation settings fostered the development of competencies in telehealth, information management, data analysis, support for clinical and organizational decision-making, and interprofessional work. The integrated performance of Nursing, Physiotherapy, and Psychology professionals enabled broader approaches to care, strengthening the connection between technology, clinical practices, and public policies, impacting the regionalization of care and reducing inequalities in access.
CONCLUSIONS:
The Multiprofessional Residency in Digital Health is a training model aligned with the Brazilian Unified Health System (SUS) and international guidelines, contributing to the qualification of the workforce and the strengthening of more efficient, equitable, and population-centered health systems.
