ABSTRACT
INTRODUCTION:
promoting sexual and reproductive health among women in situations of social vulnerability remains a major challenge for public health systems, particularly in contexts marked by persistent socioeconomic inequalities¹,². in brazil, rede alyne is a public policy implemented within the unified health system, aiming to reduce maternal mortality, strengthen primary health care, and expand access to reproductive planning, especially long-acting reversible contraceptive methods³. this study analyzes the impacts of providing the levonorgestrel subdermal implant to low-income women in a municipality in northeastern brazil.
METHODS:
this is a descriptive qualitative study based on secondary data from the citizen electronic health record system and institutional reports from primary health care services⁴. participants were women identified by primary care teams as being at high risk for unplanned pregnancy, with unfavorable obstetric history, low socioeconomic conditions, and high social vulnerability. the levonorgestrel subdermal implant was offered due to its high effectiveness, safety, and minimal dependence on continuous user adherence.
RESULTS:
the provision of the levonorgestrel subdermal implant through rede alyne demonstrated positive impacts, including a reduction in unplanned pregnancies, increased reproductive autonomy, improved family stability, and strengthened bonds between women and unified health system services. additional benefits included expanded access to reproductive planning, improved continuity of care, and empowerment through health education activities and intersectoral actions.
CONCLUSIONS:
the integration between rede alyne and primary health care services represents an effective public policy strategy for promoting sexual and reproductive rights, reducing health inequities, and improving health outcomes among women living in situations of social vulnerability.
